The colors seem especially brilliant this year with all the rain and overcast skies.
More so than any season, in October I feel I’m like going out into a new landscape every morning.
I find that I want to spend as much time as I can outside, even in the rain.
I want to tell you about reaching up
into the apple tree
to pick a wild apple,
when a shower came down from the leaves
and a drop fell on the corner of my right eye
and rolled down my face —
a single tear.
I go now
out into that morning
with my black dog
and green boots,
ready to get saturated
with September dew,
tears like jeweled spider webs.
Admiring his smallness.
Watching him be little and big
at the same time.
We are reading so many good books this month! Being at Gousty is bringing out the reading in all of us. The stack of books that Amabel has read to herself this month is even higher than the stack in this photo! Many of the chapter books that I read as a child and adolescent are in this house (the actual copies!), and I love coming into the living room to find her curled up on the couch with one of my old books in her lap.
Early morning, afternoon, evening, and night –
I am in love with the magic of Gousty light.
We are here for the month of May, and soaking up every moment of living in the beautiful Gousty woods.
(Shh . . . don’t tell Suzie that a bird tried to come inside while I was making dinner one night!)
This land will always be my home.
Squeezing in a little school work . . . and cousin time.
